The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Research and Planning, DIG Johnson Kokumo has hinted that Police officers and men have a huge chance of getting eternal reward from God by virtue of the role that they play in the society. He, however, charged that the work requires special devotion and attention.
Speaking with senior officers and the rank and file in the Nigeria Police at the Lagos State Command, DIG Johnson Kokumo expressed: ‘We are privileged to be here to do this work, let us serve conscientiously. Even the Holy Book describes the Police job as the best job you can do. Blessed are the peacemakers because they shall inherit the kingdom of God.’
‘Our going to heaven is automatic. I did not write that. Are we not peacemakers? Are we not blessed? God has called us blessed, let us be professional’, Trek Africa Newspaper gathered.
DIG Kokumo continued: ‘We have as slogan ‘Police is your friend’. We must examine ourselves as to what is our friendship if you engage in human rights abuses? We should realize at all times that our salaries are being paid from the taxpayers fund. We are to serve them. If we serve professionally, they will stand with us, for us, and by us. I am ceasing this opportunity to send us the directive of the IGP Usman Alkali Baba that we should make up our minds to serve the people of Nigeria to the best of our ability’, he told the police officers.
