Mother-Daughter Hockey Documentary Overtime set to premiere on Tellus OPTIK TV & Online

Vancouver, BC (November 22, 2023) – Studio 104 Entertainment announced today that the TELUS original mid-length documentary OVERTIME from writer/director Jenny Lee-Gilmore will have its television debut on December 5th, 2023. On the heels of its World Premiere at the Calgary International Film Festival and winning Best Short Documentary, Best Direction in a Short Documentary and Best Cinematography in a Short Documentary at the Vancouver Asian Film Festival this month, OVERTIME will be available to audiences across Canada free on demand on TELUS Optik TV Channel 8 and online at worldwide.

OVERTIME follows Vancouver’s Kelley Lee Gilmore; a 60-year-old mother, wife, Ph.D. doctor, university professor, and hockey player. For Kelley, hockey is more than a hobby and with the upcoming Canada 55+ Games in Kamloops she embarks on a milestone to compete at a national level for Team BC Wolfpack. Filmmaker Jenny Lee-Gilmore documents her mother Kelley’s journey as they explore what it means to be a Chinese-Canadian woman in hockey and reflect on how the sport has shaped their relationship.

Facing gender and racial barriers as a Chinese-Canadian woman in a male-dominated sport, Kelley reflects on her journey and her unwavering passionate pursuit of her dreams as she faces the inevitable limits of age. OVERTIME celebrates a woman’s passion and fight to play the sport she loves. It is a hockey story but, at its core, it’s a story about an underdog fighting for her dreams.

Jenny Lee-Gilmore is a British born Chinese-Caucasian actor & filmmaker based in Vancouver, B.C. She completed her BFA in Film Production at the University of British Columbia in 2019. Her debut short film Breakaway played in festivals across North America, was selected in the Top 9 of 2020’s CBC Short Film Face Off and is now being developed into a YA series. She’s an alumna of the VIFF Catalyst mentorship program, BIPOC TV & Film Showrunner Bootcamp, 2023 GEMS Emerging TV Producer Lab and is a current participant in the just announced 2023 WIDC Story & Leadership program. Jenny is passionate about telling female-centric and Asian Canadian stories that are often overlooked or neglected by mainstream media and strives to create meaningful and authentic stories that resonate with audiences.

OVERTIME was written and directed by Jenny Lee-Gilmore, Produced by Mike Johnston, and co-Produced by Andy Alvarez, Diana Parry, and Martin Calvo. The Director of Photography is Diana Parry (Terror/Forming, A Motorcycle Saved My Life) and is edited by Anna Chiyeko Shannon. Executive Producers are Kathleen S. Jayme (The Grizzlie Truth), Jenny Lee-Gilmore (Breakaway) and Mike Johnston (I’m Just Here for the Riot, Wild Goat Surf). Production Executive for TELUS is Ken Tsui.
