Immangel Cancer Foundation gives succour to cancer victims at World Cancer Day 2024
As part of measures to stem the tide of rising cases of Cervical Cancer, Prostrate, and Breast Cancer and also intensify its awareness in the community, the Immangel Cancer Foundation, was on Saturday, February 24, 2024, rolled out drums for free Breast and Cervical Cancer screening for women and other cancer related issues across Ayobo/Ipaja community , the Lagos metropolis in commemoration of World Cancer Day 2024.
The annual event which has impacted several homes, finding succour to the epidemic diseases in the last three years had a massive turn-out as many from far and near trouped out to 1 John Obute Crescent, Baruwa, Ipaja, Lagos,the venue of the event to have a glimpse of the free screening exercise.
The Founder, Mrs. Angela Eringa Emmanuel, while addressing the participants at the rally stressed the importance of the awareness, noting that even though Breast and Cervical Cancer are the third and fourth most common cancer in women globally, it can be successfully treated and managed effectively if detected early.
She suggested regular screening for early diagnosis because the symptoms do not present themselves until the late stages.
“Symptoms of Cervical Cancer are unusual vaginal bleeding, especially during sexual intercourse. Vagina bleeding that looks and smells differently as well as pain in the pelvis among others”, she said.
Speaking further, she revealed that the Foundation in the last few years has done phenomenally well in terms of awareness, counselling and navigation and taking care of few victims under the auspice of the Foundation.
“Just late last year, we lost one of our patients, Mrs Elizabeth Bamgbose to Breast Cancer after a failed battle with the killer diseases. This came after we lost a man who seek our assistance for Lung Cancer in another community”.,she stated.
Immangel in her further submission stressed the need for safe sex, regular screening and vaccination against Cervical Cancer, Breast and Prostrate Cancer while imploring women to take advantage of the free screening to ascertain their cervical and breast health status.
