2023: Oyo politician, Teslim Folarin, takes AGF Malami’ sister as new wife

The hum of life begins again, soon after the last condolence has been declared for the comfort of the bereaved; women mourn their late husband but men replace their departed wives –

The gender gap in late life remarriage, where widowers are more likely than widows to remarry, has been explained by the adage ‘‘women mourn, men replace”.

The implication of this characterization is that heartbroken widows mourn the loss of their irreplaceable late husbands, whereas widowed men quickly find a helpmate and confidante to take the place of their late wives.

The tears have not completely dried on the faces of those who genuinely loved Angela, the late wife of Senator Teslim Folarin, the lawmaker representing Oyo Central Senatorial District.

Neither will the grief and sense of loss disappear soon. Angela, a lawyer, died in the UK in January 2022. She was 48.

In her lifetime, she lived for her husband. She loved him genuinely and he reciprocated in equal measure. They were inseparable. Angela and Folarin were the perfect picture of cupid.

Holding hands and staring into each other’s eyes in public came naturally to them.

She was the yin to her yang or so the world believed.

The mystery surrounding Angela’s death is still unresolved as some say she was not sick or nursing any ailment.

A statement announcing her death and signed by Folarin’s media aide alluded to this;

“The deceased was hale and hearty until the angel of death knocked the door.”

Tragic as her death is, her widower, Senator Folarin, seems to have put it behind him and moved on with his life and, as sources say, has also moved on to a new bride.

Those who know say Folarin has found love in one of the sisters of the Minister for Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.

Though the youngest minister appointed by president Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 (he was 48 then), Malami, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, is regarded as an influential member of the cabal around the president.

The very minister also has a stronghold on the president having served as legal adviser to the Congress for Progressive Change on which platform President Buhari ran for presidency and failed in 2011. Folarin’s eagerness to quickly settle down with his sister is, thus, understandable.

Luckily for him, the dividends have started rolling in as Folarin vied for and won the All Progressives Congress, APC, gubernatorial ticket in Oyo State. Bayo Adelabu who flew the party’s flag in the 2019 election angrily left the party, complaining that he was muscled out by Folarin, the new power bloc in Oyo State politics.
